about us

Our Mission

Breakfast2Music is a registered not-for-profit society that actively helps to provide nutritious breakfast to school children in Greater Victoria in collaboration with teachers and schools. Proper nutrition is vital for a child’s ability to engage and learn. Breakfast2Music is committed to both providing children with healthy food and supporting music programs at elementary, middle and high schools. Governed by a Board of Directors, Breakfast2Music works in partnership with the Victoria Foundation and School District 61 to assess funding and administer it to schools that need it most.

It Takes a Village

Breakfast2Music has received generous grants from the Grocery Foundation of Canada and Rotary Victoria Harbourside. Since 2020, we’ve partnered with Camosun College’s Hospitality Management students. We also work with local Victoria businesses like Aragon Properties and The Carson Group to raise essential funds and are supported by Schibli, Stedman, King Chartered Public Accountants. The public supports our programs directly through financial donations and in-kind donations of instruments. Learn more about our generous sponsors here. Hungry School Children in Victoria?!

Yes! And it’s a growing problem. Many reliable sources report that child poverty rates are high and that support is needed in our schools. The 2020 BC Child Poverty Report Card reported that 15% of children in Greater Victoria were living in poverty. That’s 1 in 7 or 9,290 kids! Many of these kids may be starting their day hungry and needing breakfast or healthy snacks for nourishment which we help provide.

Why is Breakfast Important?

Breakfast is vital for young brains and bodies, which need proper nourishment to thrive, learn and focus. As the Chief Public Health Officer reported in 2008: “When children go to school hungry or poorly nourished, their energy levels, memory, problem‐solving skills, creativity, concentration and behaviour are all negatively impacted.”

How Can I Contribute?

You can make a tax-deductible donation, and earmark it for either breakfasts or music, online at Canada Helps or make a cheque out to our trustee “The Victoria Foundation”, noting ”for the Breakfast2Music Society fund”.
